Compass Rose Brewery gets it. As an avid traveler and lover of craft beer, I’m happy to have head brewer Thomas Vincent as a friend. After years of hard work, Thomas opened the doors to Compass Rose Brewery in 2015, a 10 barrel brewery located in Raleigh, North Carolina.
So, why does he “get it?” Too often, I think, we stay in our own “bubbles” — barely leaving a radius of a few miles from our home. Work or other obligations often tie us down from exploring what other parts of the world have to offer. It’s nice when a local, neighborhood brewery can allow you to “travel the world” with just a few sips of craft beer.
Head brewer Thomas’ inspirations at Compass Rose Brewery come from many sources — not only the beauty of North Carolina, but his travels around the world. Thomas values what others around the world bring to the brewing industry and draws upon these worldly inspirations to develop unique recipes that appeal to a wide variety of beer connoisseurs.
After a visit to Compass Rose Brewery, one of the highlights at taproom was the Agave Cream Ale. This beer contains agave from the blue agave cactus native to Mexico, which is best known for its finished product of tequila. This unique flavor profile and sugar composition makes an interesting new beer style, and is perfect to drink during the warmer months ahead.
Not only is Thomas brewing with international ingredients, he is also using local North Carolina ingredients. Another one of my favorite beers that Compass Rose Brewery featured this past Valentine’s Day was a Belgian beer brewed with beets. This Heart Beet beer had a brilliant pink color and was certainly a perfect ode to Valentine’s Day!
If you find yourself in the Raleigh, North Carolina area, pay a visit to Compass Rose Brewery for globally inspired, locally brewed beers. Trust your Compass!
