Spring is finally here and Bushwick’s Arrogant Swine is celebrating by launching a new cocktail menu. Cocktails are much needed after New York City’s long, snowy winter.
Tyson Ho, founder of Arrogant Swine in Brooklyn, is known for bringing delicious Carolina-style barbecue to New York City. Not only is he smoking whole hogs and serving up the best Outside Brown in the city, but his cocktails are inventive and created using smoke.

The Mason Jar received a preview of Arrogant Swine’s cocktail menu, which uses fresh ingredients like mint and cherries. Pork isn’t all that’s smoking at Arrogant Swine; our favorite cocktail is the Menthol Cuban Cigar, created using smoke from pecan wood.
To create the Menthol Cuban Cigar cocktail, Tyson fills a smoke gun with pecan wood — the same wood he uses to cook his whole hog barbecue. He ignites the wood using a lighter and then fills a mason jar with the fragrant smoke until the glass is completely foggy.
Once the jar is filled with smoke, Tyson shakes and adds a mixture of lime juice, Sailor Jerry Rum and sugar to the jar. The liquid is bathed in the pecan smoke to become slightly infused with a smoky flavor.
The Menthol Cuban Cigar is garnished with a lime and fresh mint. The flavor is perfect with a hint of smoke and zest from the lime. Of course, the cocktail is best enjoyed outside while basking in the sunshine. Pay a visit to Arrogant Swine to try a smoked cocktail and bring in Spring.
